DALLA AND BATTIATO

Lucio Dalla and Franco Battiato were two of the most influential and original musicians on the Italian scene, with a vast discography spanning various musical genres. Their presence in Milo helped consolidate the cultural and artistic importance of this enchanting Sicilian town. During his stay in Milo, at the Villa Grazia residence (named after his mother), Battiato created his music and continued to work on his art, drawing inspiration from the unique atmosphere of Mount Etna and the beauty of the surrounding nature. The volcano was also a source of inspiration for the great maestro Lucio Dalla, who bought a house here in the 90s, right next to Battiato’s. Today, a life-size bronze statue permanently located in the central Piazza Belvedere Giovanni D’Aragona pays tribute to the friendship between two of the greatest figures in Italian music. The statue depicts Dalla sitting at the piano, looking towards the sea, and Franco Battiato standing, looking instead towards Mount Etna. The project reflects the deep affection the entire community feels for the two musicians.
